THis may sound like a stupid question

In Windows 11, on the extreme left of the task bar, there is something where if the mouse pointer goes over it, a window sweeps in from the left full of ads and witless stuff I don't need. I don't know what this feature is called, but it is annoying. If anyone knows how I can turn it off, I'd be eternally grateful. If I knew what it was called, I would research it, but looking at settings has turned up nothing useful. Regards Keith
