The Email that is attached to my microsoft account no longer exists.

The Email that is attached to my microsoft account no longer exists. When I try to change to security info including changing this email and/or adding a phone number microsoft wishes to send a verification code to the email that doesnt exist any more. I have verified my account via security questions but it still wishes to send a code to the defunct email address. How do I change the email attached to the account to a new Email in this situation.
