System requiring a PIN to log in

I had a system update that now requires a pin. There is no PIN, I tried to Uninstall updates (Reboot and hold Ctrl Key, then Advanced Options, Unstall Updates, and I have my Key, but the laptop will only allow me to type the numbers from the key, not the letters.
