Stuck at "Working on updates 7% complete" screen

Hi there, my HP pavilion I've had for about 2 years mostly for school won't boot up. I pulled it out during class today and pressed the power button to be greeted with the "Working on updates 7% complete" screen. I have tried restarting a couple times. Bios fix stuff didn't do anything. I tried f8 and shift + f8 for safe mode? That didn't seem to do anything. I can't get to anything on the laptop, it just immediately goes to this screen upon being powered on. Please let me know if there is anything I can try
