Stretched Screen Resolution LG Ultrawide Monitor

Hi, I have a LG Ultrawide monitor connected to HP laptop with HDMI. I am using the extend the displays but the picture is stretched on the monitor. The only way I can view it not stretched is by adjusting the Aspect Ratio setting on the monitor to 'Original' but this means the picture is not widescreen leaving thick unfilled areas on both sides of the picture. Within the laptop settings the Display resolution is set to 1920 x 1080 (Recommended). The option for 2560 x 1080 is not available. I have checked the drivers and they are up to date.
