I have an old Toshiba laptop which had Win Vista on it and now Win 7.
At some point in time when Vista was still installed I started getting
BSODs regarding the ati graphics driver (I suspect after some Win update).
My solution was to remove and delete the driver in safe mode and use the
Windows driver which was automatically installed and worked without problems.
This of course didn't stop Windows from reinstalling the same driver over and over
again until I tried this (both the setting and the registry change) :

The problem now is that at almost every shutdown, there is a message
about installing update 1 of 1 - from the windowsupdate.log snippet below,
it looks like Windows is trying over and over to install the ATI driver - how can
I stop this unnecessary waste of time and hard disk usage ?
It probably doesn't have anything to do with it, but I'm using the laptop as a desktop -
monitor, usb mouse and keyboard connected.

At some point in time when Vista was still installed I started getting
BSODs regarding the ati graphics driver (I suspect after some Win update).
My solution was to remove and delete the driver in safe mode and use the
Windows driver which was automatically installed and worked without problems.
This of course didn't stop Windows from reinstalling the same driver over and over
again until I tried this (both the setting and the registry change) :

The problem now is that at almost every shutdown, there is a message
about installing update 1 of 1 - from the windowsupdate.log snippet below,
it looks like Windows is trying over and over to install the ATI driver - how can
I stop this unnecessary waste of time and hard disk usage ?
It probably doesn't have anything to do with it, but I'm using the laptop as a desktop -
monitor, usb mouse and keyboard connected.
