Standby -- having issues

My computer is running Windows XP Home SP3. I have configured peripherals to

allow the keyboard to wake up the computer (from Standby -- I do not use

Hibernate), but not the mouse and not the NIC. However, I can still bump the

mouse and get the computer to wake up. And other times, I come home or wake

up in the morning and see that the computer has woken up on its own. I

checked ACPI settings in BIOS -- set to S3, as desired. No other power

management settings in BIOS. (I have an older Dell Dimension with PS/2

keyboard & mouse.)



Looked through the forums/newsgroups, but from what I've read, I already

have everything configured correctly. And as far as the waking up on its

own, the times it happens are not consistent, so I can't blame it on

something like anti-virus auto-update or Windows Defender scan. I have no

Scheduled Tasks configured.



Anyone have any thoughts?

It should work especially when your PC is new.

When its no longer working it may cause more problems than the convenience

it supposed to provide. If you will consider the time you spent trying to

make it work right, maybe you may have realized that its a minor annoyance to

just restart and wait. Waiting for 3, 4 ,5, minutes is a little price to pay

than what you already spent trying to figure out an unreliable "Standby". You

may have already spent valuable time and resources figuring it out when the

relatively easy solution is "turn it off" (Power Management) and just

restart, fixed yourself a coffee or other things that you may want to do

before sitting in front of the computer.
