Can someone tell me what this is? What does it do? I'm cleaning up a office

computer a ex-employee was using for a new employee. It's a icon on her

desktop.

XP Pro, Retail version SP2

And why aren't you flattening and rebuilding (using an image or sysprep) to

provide a FRESH install of the OS with all the necessary applications on the

new employee's computer (which is a used computer polluted with you know not

what)? Stop wasting time trying to cleanup a used host. Re-image it and

provide a NEW setup to the new employee.

Format the HDD & do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a Repair

Install (AKA in-place upgrade) will NOT suffice!

HOW TO do a clean install of WinXP: See

http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html#steps and/or Method 1 in

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978307

After the clean install, you'll have the equivalent of a "new computer" so

take care of everything on the following page before otherwise connecting

the machine to the internet or a local network (i.e., other computers) and

before using a flash drive or SDCard that isn't brand-new or hasn't been

freshly formatted:

Note: Extended Support for WinXP SP2 ends on 10 July 2010. After that date,

computers running WinXP SP2 will NOT be offered any further critical

security updates, Automatic Updates will not work, and Windows Update

website will not be accessible until SP3 is installed.

Tip: After getting the computer fully-patched, download/install KB971029

manually: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971029

NB: Any Norton or McAfee free-trial that came preinstalled on the computer

when you bought it will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is

reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the free-trial and download/run the

appropriate removal tool before installing any updates, Windows Service

Packs or IE upgrades and before installing your new anti-virus application

(which will require WinXP SP3 to be installed).

LOL. My wife used JPreg as the file to keep track of her pregnancy years ago

If it is not somehow associated with The Scottish Parliament Renewable

energy & Energy efficiency Group (SPREG), then you have not provided

enough information.

You should whack that system and reinstall everything from scratch or

you will spend a lot more time wondering what things are and what they

do. You only need to be wondering about your stuff, not somebody

else's old stuff.

If this is an office computer or, I would dazzle them with a blast of

brilliance by suggesting to the IT department that they create a

method to efficiently redeploy used computers in the workplace.
