Speaker output going to headphone jack, speaker jack output not working

[Windows 11]

The title pretty much sums it up. I have the output set to Speakers (Realtek Audio) , and when I plug the speakers into the motherboard in the back of the comptuer I get a popup message asking what device that is. I indicate front speaker, but there's no sound from that jack. When I plug in the headphones with the output still set to Speakers I get no popup but the audio plays through the headphones.
