Hi.

Does anybody know what sound drivers I can install in Windows NT (Compaq
046Ch main board)? - It is a very old computer.

Thank you.

Hello Ther,

Look on the Compaq/HP website for drivers for your computer.

Best regards,
Michel Denie

Hi.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried the HP website, but a search for Compaq 046CH does not yield any
results. I have no idea where to look.

Other drivers (not necessarily from HP), for really old computers, won't work?

Hi there,

You are most welcome.

Look on the computer case a model number or TAG should be there and seacrh
for that on the HP site.

Other driver non HP might work but since there are many chipsets there are
also many drivers, so that would be guess work.

You can use Everst (google for it) to determine which hardware is in your
computer and find the appropiate drivers for it.

Good Luck.

Best regards,
Michel Denie

Hi.

Well, I looked. Mine is a very old Compaq EP/SB computer, and,
unfortunately, all the drivers for these computers on the HP website have
been removed. The links are still there, but the following pages say "No
drivers etc."

Moreover, I was foolish enough to try one of the NT drivers for an older
model of just an EP computer, and now my damn NT system tells me "[a]t least
one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to
examine the event log for details" when the Ctrl+Alt+Delete screen appears.

I really am lost. The only thing I understand is that I made it worse.

If I try to start "Volume Control", it tells me I have to install mixer
devices and that I can do so from Control Panel.
(Does this tell you more?)

And thank you again for trying to help.

Hi there,

Like I said it would be gambling.

Knowing your hardware is necassary to find the appopiate drivers.

I believe the mainboard has an Intel 440BX chipset, you can check this by
locating the chipset on the mainboard.

Please report if this is correct than I might be able to assist finding the
right drivers.

Also state which Operating System you are using NT4?

Best regards,
Michel Denie

You might try one of the websites that collects drivers and offers
them for download. I've used drivermagic.com successfully.
