Slowed game and most icons disappeared

I have what might be 1 or 2 problems. 2 days ago my computer started running very slow in my game. Colors are slow to catch up also. Timed runs that normally take 5-6 seconds now take 13 seconds as an example. I tried updating anything I could and nothing changed. Overnight, windows did an updated. I still have the same issue, but now 80% of my desktop icons are gone. Not all of them but most. I tried displaying by various ways I found to try and nothing changed. I can watch Youtube videos without a problem.
