Since the last upgrade I must restart my computer in order to get sound to work

Ever since the last upgrade I must restart my computer in order to get sound to work. No speakers or headphones have any sound unless I restart the computer, and if I move to a different tab from a video for any time of about 15 minutes, when I return the sound no longer works, and I must restart again.
