"Share" button greyed out in File Explorer

What the title says. On File Explorer, there are all these buttons in the Share tab like "share", "email", and "burn to disc", but they're grayed out. Pressing on them does nothing. I am confused as to why this is the case - I premused the "share" button was for sharing over the network, but how is that different from clicking on the "give access to" option on the right-click menu? And why is email grayed out at all? I have the email app installed and everything...
