Selective Internet access?

TLDR I've recently purchased a new PC that works fine with no issues what so ever. It runs great. However recently I had an issue where my computer could connect to any network with no issue , and displayed a working connection though no applications other than search engines could access the Internet. Thankfully after a bit of messing around with the command prompt, I solved the issue. However today it happened again and no matter what I do I'm not able to use any installed applications that require a network connection.
