I have 2 Hard Drives connected to my PC. Everything was working fine with
Windows XP Pro.
Upon upgrading to Vista Ult. I had formatted my first drive. The second
drive I didn't touch since I have transferred all my backup files(docs,
images, mp3, etc). During Windows XP Pro, I had setup permissions that ONLY
myself would have access to the drive. So the only username in the security
permissions was my name.
After upgrading to Vista Ult., I did the following:
1. On the Security tab of 2nd drive's Properties, I clicked on
Advanced>Owner Tab>Chose myself as the Owner>Checked the box for Replace
owner on subcontainers and objects and clicked OK.
2. After it did its job of assigning permissions, I added myself on the
Security Tab of the Properties window as having full access.
Now every time I have to browse the folders of the 2nd drive or I have to
open a file, a permissions window pops up stating that I don't have access
to open or look at the files: Access Denied.
At each and every file or folder I have to right click and add myself as a
User with full permissions to view or open the file or folder.
I was at an understanding that when I take ownership of the folder and I
check to Replace Owner I was given access to everything inside that drive
and all its folders and files, JUST like in XP Pro.
What process needs to be done so I don't have to add myself inside Security
Tab: Group or user names section for each and every file or folder?
Please help out.
Thanks.
Hope this was not confusing.
