If I don't trust that the definitions are up to date, and I instead ask the app to update the definitions by using the "Manual" tab, the app's progress bar will show it proceeding, but then the bar's forward movement slows down incrementally, until it comes to a complete stop about 1/4 way through.
If I cancel, the screen goes black and I get the standard-looking Windows app installation dialog asking me if it's OK if the app accesses my computer. If I press cancel, it just goes back to the stopped progress bar Manual update window, and I can finally only get rid of that by answering Yes to the dialog asking me if I want to allow the app access to my computer.
Rinse and Repeat. The manual definitions update still doesn't update all the way across the progress bar.
Windows 7, and 5 or 6 year old ThinkPad.
