My Win7 indexing seemed to be missing some items, so I clicked "rebuild" under indexing options, but it seemed to only crash the indexer. Nothing happens now, indexing won't start and there are no folders or volumes displaying under index locations in the control panel. It tells me "Indexing is not running". Now, it will not run again. The indexing service enable check box is checked under Windows features, but it still won't start.
I restarted the computer, but no change. I looked at the processes, index is not running nor will it allow me to start it. I Tried using the MS "Fixit", but it only reported after trying to fix permissions and change settings etc. that it could not fix it.
I tried the MS Fix found at <support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2484025> I deleted the entries in that system folder and restarted ... new files were created, but it didn't restart the indexer. I tried restarting the indexing from the menu prompt while searching a folder, but it won't restart.
I switched users to ADMIN and I was able to momentarily start the search service, and I see search indexer process running for a split second, but then it quits a moment later ... very frustrating!
I use the index and search often and need that function to do my work. Any other fixes for this error that I should try?
