Saving a backup set in ntbackup?

Hello,

Is it possible to save a backup set (i.e. list of folders/files) that

ntbackup should include?

The help files mention a *.bks file, but couldn't find any information

anywhere on how to create one or how to utilize it from the GUI.

When you schedule a backup, you can click it and, on the BackupDetails tab,

it has what appears to be a file path. However, the window is not sizable

and the field is not selectable, so I can't see the ultimate location. Nor

have I ever seen an option to use a "file" when scheduling the backup, so I'm

not sure if knowing would do me any good anyway.

Any thoughts anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

When you use the backup wizard then you can select any folder on any drive

that you want backed up. The wizard then generates the .bks file and stores

it somewhere in your profile folder.

OK. Do you know of a way to then access that bks file again in the future?

For instance, I'd like to have 3 or 4 of them and be able to select whichever

one I want to back up at that point in time. Any ideas?

I'll answer your question with another question. When you use the wizard

then you get the opportunity to run the job sometime in the future. Try

this:

- Create such a job to run at a future date.

- Open the Task Scheduler via the Control Panel.

- Open the backup task you just created.

- Post its command line here.

You then use the Restore features or the Restore Wizard, whichever you

prefer. Just like with any other backup ware. It's right there on the screen

when you start backup; you can back up OR restore the backup to its home

location or even elsewhere if you wanted to.
