RSS Feed Time Zone Conversion Bug

Say you have an RSS feed with an item that has a pub date:



Wed, 17 Mar 2010 11:30 -0400



and you're using IE to look at this feed on Friday March 12th, 2010 and

your computer is in Mountain Time ( currently GMT -7).



IE displays the date as



Wed, 17 Mar 2010 8:30 AM



This is wrong. On Wednesday, March 17th Mountain Time will be GMT -6.

The actual correct time displayed should be 9:30 AM.



I believe this is because IE is doing the date conversion using the

current GMT offset, not the GMT offset that is in effect for the date.



When the same feed is viewed in Firefox, it displays as expected.

You know you have a good program when it still works correctly for

a date in another year where the begin/end DST rules were different

RSS Feed Time Zone Conversion Bug -- OFF TOPIC, Similar but different

I have an Internet Security Suite that is supposed to run virus and spyware

sweeps after Midnight on Sunday, or whatever. The sweeps do not run at the

specified time, and I'm wondering if the time is GMT or what. I'm in Pacific

time, but the timing of the scan does not seem to be wrong by only 8 hours.



Maybe that's it! I want the scan to start at 0300, Sunday, but it runs at

1100 or 1200, Monday, and that is GMT -8. If I want the scan to run at 0300

on Sunday, then I need to start it at 1900, or whatever, on Saturday.



Something's wrong there. If I wanted the scan to run at Midnight on Sunday,

then it would be 1400 on Saturday in my timezone then, but the scan actually

runs on Monday.



Shouldn't these tasks take place at local time of the machine they are set

to run? What am I missing here?
