Restored Vista won't install updates

I have an old laptop (from 2008 or 2009 I think) with Windows Vista. A few weeks ago I restored the computer to see if it would make it a bit faster again.


But after the restoration I have major problems with installing programs. I was able to install Firefox and antivirus (Avast) without any problems, but other programs - such as updated versions of Adobe Reader and Flash player, and Libreoffice - won't install at all. I can download the installations files but when clicking on them nothing happens. I have checked Task manager, so they are not running in the background either.


I also face similar problems with Windows update. It is stuck on installing Vista SP1. It says that the installation may take a big amount of time and that it may restart the computer several times, but when installing it goes very quickly (without restarts) and says that installation is completed. But when searching for new updates the SP1 is still there and not installed.
