reinstall xp no cds

The hd died on my Dell D600. I'm buying another hd. I don't have the

reinstallation cd for the D600 but I have them for my Dell Dimension 2400

desktop unit. Can I use the Dimension 2400 xp reinstall cd & enter the xp

key found on the D600?

is it a recovery CD or a OS CD

Some or most Recovery CD's are tied to the Specific Model
