Reinstall Windows XP I loose more than half icons on desktop

Hi, experts!

I reinstall Windows XP and after reinstall now I have only half of all
icons.
Where Windows save desktop icons?
For any addvice I thank everybody!

I believe that a new install of XP only shows a couple of icons and any
others are shortcuts that you put there yourself if you want to.

To add the My Computer, My Network Places, Internet Explorer, and My Documents icons back
to your desktop:

1. Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
2. On the Desktop tab, click Customize Desktop.
3. Under Desktop icons, click to select the check boxes of the icons you want to view.
4. Click OK two times.
