recurring series or single occurance pop up box not appearing

when trying to amend an recurring appointment. usually the box appears that says to open the occurrence or series. The box is not appearing and therefore it is editing the entire series when only one occurrence is needing to be edited. This is happening when someone else wants to edit the occurrence on behalf of the persons calendar
