Hi *

we have some servers running Windows Server 2019 and on all of them, after a certain idle period, we cannot reconnect to rdp sessions any more. We use Remote Desktop for Administration of the server, only.

What we found so far:

After the error occured, we can connect to the console without problems and can use the previous disconnected session. After that we can reconnect to this very session from the client again.

In the Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager/Admin Logfile we can find Event ID 1006 "The RD Session Host server received large number of incomplete connections. The system may be under attack."

In the Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager/Operational Logfile we find a single connection attempt at the same time with Event ID 261

(That attempt was the attempt that gave us the error message on mstsc client "An internal error has occured")

Any idea to get remote desktop working like in previous versions?

/Klaus

Edit: Just found another thread that describes exactly the same problem on Windows 10 1809: [RDS] Problem that RDP sessions locks access to the computer.
