Reactivating a retail key

Hello,In 2014, I obtained a retail windows 8.1 pro license key for my laptop. That laptop sadly died shortly after the end of the warranty period, roughly in 2017, and I bought a new laptop with an OEM-provided windows to replace it.I'm currently building a new computer and want to reuse the 2014 windows 8.1 pro license key as it is my understanding that 1) retail keys allow that, and 2) this license is upgradeable to windows 11 pro.Problem is, as far as I remember, I never linked the 2014 license key to a Microsoft account and I can't do that on the old computer because it simply does not exi
