I have an ASUS P8z77-V PRO running Windows 7 since 2012.

It has an Intel SSD 330 series device for the OS and an identical pair of WD Caviar Green 1.0 Tb HDDs for data.

Recent "hangs" of Windows (blue rotating doughnut, no cursor) led me to decide that the time had come to re-install Win 7 for the first time.

Downloaded from MS an (ISO?) image of Win 7 to another pc and then saved this to DVD.

Disconnected the power and signal cables to both HDDs to make sure that OS installed on the SSD.

Used this DVD to re-install the OS.

Relatively uneventful and quick, though had to reset (in BIOS) the SATA status from "RAID" to "AHCI" to get the install to work.

OS booted up afterwards successfully and went through its repeated cycles of updates (as expected).

Came to re-instate the HDDs, reset AHCI to RAID.

No luck. OS would not load and the BIOS, under "Accelerated Disk/Volume" said "The cache associated with the Accelerated Disk/Volume is not present. etc etc"

The BIOS Disk/Volume Information panel shows:

under "Raid Volumes" - ID=1 Volume_0000 RAID(stripe)128KB Size=47.8GB Status=Normal

ID=2 Volume_0001 RAID(cache)128KB Size=64.0GB Status=Disabled

Under "Physical devices" - ID=0 Device Model = INTEL SSDSC2CT12 Serial#=MP214100QS120BGN

So, I suspect I have caused a problem in my setting SATA status to AHCI to get the original Win7 install to work.

Have searched internet for comparable task, but with no luck.

Please can someone advise.

Many thanks
