I keep editing out the reboot required entry and it keeps coming back! is
there anything else I can do?

Do you have any security protection on like anti virus etc which could be inteferring with
the reboot and not allowing the process to proceed.
Disconnect from the internet, turn off/disable the anti virus and then reboot.
Did this help.
Don't forget to turn back on the anti virus protection.

Have done as you suggested but still have the same problem. It seems to have
appeared after I tried to download IE7, which failed????
