Random programs not allowed to run/ System overheating

1. Over the last month or so I have been getting the following error for a number of random programs: "This app can't run on your PC". Even after downloading and re-installing the programs multiple times, I am still unable to get them to stay working if I shut down and restart the system. This has happened with Adobe Acrobat Reader, Mozilla Thunderbird Mail, Avid's Sibelius, Avira anti-virus, Revo Uninstaller, and now... MICROSOFT OFFICE 2016!!!
