Ran an update, after which my files in the download folder have disappeared... please help

I'm on windows 10... There was an update a few days ago, after which all my files in the download folder have disappeared apart from the last few days... I checked restore - it says WIndows could not find a back up for this computer...please help, i would like the files back.
