Ram I bought doesn't work on my computer only

i have 8gb initially, bought another 8gb. it doesnt work on my computer only.how do i know? i checked it my friend's computer it started just fine. Now how do i know that the problem is not my motherboard? because the stick i have currently does infact work on both the slots. (so where even is the problem)
