There are in Windows two implementations of RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks aka something else): software (deprecated) and hardware. There are several flavors of RAID. The idea is to keep applications running despite the unfortunate event in which a mass storage device (hard disk, SSD, etc.) fails. RAID is not intended to be a substitute for making regular backup copies of every important file. Such backups should be safely stored offline.
