My computer has repeatedly been refusing to (or can't) install three Windows Critical Updates supposed to be for Office 2007 Suites. These are: Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB3085549), (KB3085616) and (KB3114425).
I have also been getting this message from my Antivirus every time I boot up my computer for the last four or five days:
BullGuard has just blocked a suspicious file on your computer: FlashPlayerInstaller.exe
The suspected file was moved to quarantine before it could do any harm. Your computer is safe. More details
If I click on the More details button, the following message comes up:
Suspected file: FlashPlayerInstaller.exe
Risk: high
Path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\FlashPlayerInstaller.exe
Details
• The program FlashPlayerInstaller.exe attempted to modify a protected system setting.
Files modified
I have taken several steps to check and remedy this.
Obviously the first was to do a thorough full scan and vulnerability scan with BullGuard (fully updated), which has turned up no threats. I've now done this three times.
I searched for and deleted the files FlashPlayerApp.exe and FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl inside C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ but found no file specifically named FlashPlayerInstaller.exe at the Path location specified, or anywhere else when I did a My Computer search for that exe specific file on all drives. The only place it seems to come up is in the BullGuard warning. I even clean uninstalled Flash Video Player, repeated all the above actions, left all Flash OFF my computer, and STILL every time I rebooted, I got the same message. Then, as none of my video would work without Adobe Flash, I did a clean new installation of Adobe Flash video - from the Adobe site.
I've even run Windows Virus scanner Msert.exe, and the Mseinstall.exe virus scanners three times to do thorough checks and both turned up with no threats found. And tried Microsoft Fix it, which didn't fix it.
I'm pretty much at my wits' end as to what to do next, or whether to ignore the antivirus warning each time I reboot. And any refusal of Windows to install critical updates again and again (at least 20 times now) worries **** out of me.
Any advice welcome.
