Problems getting the PC to boot. (Will not boot).

The PC often won't boot. When I press the on button there is only a gray screen. If I disconnect all external connections, it starts occasionally if I first unplug the power cord for a minute and then hold the start button for 10-15 seconds before finally briefly pressing the start button again. It works fine to put the PC to sleep (put the screen down), then it starts normally when I open the lid again. I have installed all the updates from Microsoft, except the last one that came after my problem occurred. I have run Lenovo's trouble-shooting program. It found no
