One of our users has recently installed Outlook 2016 on his home PC and now he is having problems connecting to our Exchange 2013 environment. Here on the LAN, Outlook 2016 users have no problem. I think perhaps the problem exists because either:

1) He is connecting over the Internet, so perhaps there is a port/protocol/firewall issue.

or

2) Because his home machine is not joined to the domain.

I think I am somewhat able to replicate his problem... autodiscovery works fine, but if I pretend that it doesn't and choose to manually set up the account in Outlook, I get the same error he does. That is, I enter my name, email address, the address of our CAS server, username and password, I get the error "Log onto Exchange ActiveSync mail server (EAS): Could not locate the specified server. User name and/or password are not valid. Please verify the information is correct."

One thing that strikes me as odd is that on the manual setup page, I get the options to either set up "POP or IMAP" or "Outlook.com or Exchange ActiveSync compatible service." I don't have the option to MANUALLY set up a regular corporate Exchange server? It doesn't have a more generic Exchange option and ONLY offers to connect over ActiveSync, which then fails with the error mentioned above.

As far as I know, our AutoDiscover service is configured properly. It has been set up for years and we've never had a problem before. And I tested AutoDiscover from Microsoft's cloud and it passed.

If anyone has any ideas I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
