I am using Office 365 and have the following email addresses currently set up and working without problem:

1) Microsoft Exchange account email

2) Hotmail email address

I am now trying to add an IMAP email address from where the domain is located on a Linux server.

When i go through the wizard i add the email address and set up the account using SSL

ie

Incoming mailserver : mail.mydomain.com Port 993

Outgoing mailserver : mail.mydomian.com Port 465

Authentication : Auto

The account setup hangs and no account details or data file are created

When i go through the wizard i add the email address and set up the account using TLS

ie

Incoming mailserver : mail.mydomain.com Port 143

Outgoing mailserver : mail.mydomian.com Port 587

Authentication : Auto

The account setup will create the account folders on the left hand side and a data file but then throws the standard error message to reinput the account data.

The account does not show in the email accounts list but the data file shows in the data files list but cannot be deleted as it says there is an email account associated with the file.

The only way to get rid of this is to delete the Outlook profile and recreate it.

So there is no confusion or suggestion that i am inputting the wrong data:

I can create the IMAP email address in Thunderbird on the same computer with no problem.

I can create the IMAP account on Office 365 on my mobile with no problem.

I can create another hotmail account or a gmail account in the offending Outlook program but not another account with a domain on the linux server.

It seems to me that Outlook somehow has cached the Linux server IP and blocked it but not at router level or has some sort of legacy data somewhere leftover from the numerous attempts to create the account. Or is there a conflict between Microsoft Exchange, Office 365 and an external IMAP account? Certainly from my fault searching the problem can be isolated to the Outlook program.

Outlook, the computer, the server and server firewall have all been rebooted.

Suggestions?
