I was happy using Windows 7, everything worked fine until I took the bait from numerous Email warnings and began to install Windows 10 before deadline date. Installer instructed me to disable security programs (Trend Micro and Windows security?) which I did. A pop up appeared telling me my drivers were out of date and listed the ones needing updating 'for a price of some $71.00.' Immediately suspected something was not right, deleted pop up, began online reinstall of Windows 7 but half way through unzipping things slowed down and attempted reboot to try again. Curser control erratic and with unusual difficulty resorted to main switch shutdown. Rebooted but could not control curser normally and all **** began.
Contacted Trend Micro tech, described events and that yearly security renewal was in 4 days. They assured me all would be OK and
we attempted an online reinstall which was slow and did not work properly. I gave Trend remote access and we worked toward
installing the renewal but before attempting Tech requested I contact HP to check driver status. Excellent HP tech guided me through installation of (HP SoftPaq) using Internet Explorer as Firefox was not performing normally. Contacted Windows Tech who
decided I should reinstall Windows 7 but we were having a language communication problem. I allowed her control access and
was assured everything was 'repaired' NOT!! Windows 7 was working fine but I still cannot find my favorites although she said
she had created a separate file. **** Hum!
Next morning I booted up, did a successful full Trend scan with no irregularities detected and found I could not access my
Gmail account. Finally whistles & bells later everything is working fine--------except HP M1212nf printer does not respond to laptop print command. It scans and prints and that's all. It has a fax capability but I never use it. Used Supplies Error appears
Called HP printer Tech who tries to sell me a new printer at a discount since I'm a long time HP user and that the printer is 6 1/2 years old and beyond extended warranty. Took printer to shop I have been buying non HP refilled cartridges from, they replaced
cartridge at no charge and ran Self Test Configuration showing everything is fine.
I'm almost through with this tale.
Since most of the work I do involves Ancestry.com I called their tech who suggested others who updated to Google Chrome were
able to solve printing problems. I successfully installed Google Chrome but did not give it priority over Firefox which has worked
well for me. Chrome recognizes the printer and its drivers but I'm reluctant to make any changes as chrome is new to me.
If anyone reading this epistle is still awake and can suggest a fix to this printer/computer interface I would be greatly appreciative
Best regards,
****
