I have it set in my group policy that computers should run automatic update
every evening, and should install all updates available. Then it should not
reboot the computer, nor ask the user to restart.

Saturday night, all of my computers, including my servers restarted
automatically, and then displayed that annoying green shield in the task bar
telling me that microsoft had updated my computer.

I want to prevent this from happening again.

Someone suggested using wsus, which i have installed, but haven't
implemented yet, but i would not like to have to approve every update, and
sort out which ones will restart the computers.

how can i fix this?

thanks.

I agree with Mr. Bilsky that this is a very annoying aspect of automatic
updates.

This should be a user-selectable option in AU. I had a search of our whole
network running overnight and guess what, I now have to start over thanks to
our little green shield friend which by the way made me see red!

I actually do like the Windows operating system with all of its flaws and
shortcomings that many like to make hay about, but this is indicative of the
lack of polish on their products that seems to plague Microsoft.

Don't run macs, they need reboots as well.

Don't install updates if you don't want to reboot. It's that simple.
Change the settings to 'download but do not install'. It is adjustable
and user selectable now.
