When posting in a Windows XP newsgroup then it would help mentioning the

word "Windows" once every so often. If this is a hardware question then a

hardware newsgroup might be a better place to post it.

If the power pack states that is is capable of 110-120 volt 60 cycle and

220-250 volt 50 cycle AC input then simply purchase an adaptor plug which

will convert the standard US 2 plug with ground to the standard England

plug. See here for examples of the two types of plugs you may encounter in

I have a complete set of adaptors for my computer's power supply. Also note

whether your computer power cable is two or three wire where it plugs into

the wall. The two round plug adapter will NOT work with a three wire US

plug. For that you need the three wire adaptor (listed at $7.00 on the

site.)

You could always look for a replacement for the DA90PS2-00 on a UK laptop

parts site.

It would help if someone from the UK would respond, to make sure this

is what they use for typical outlets. This is a dual switched outlet,

with shutters on the non-earth pins. It looks like it might match

the cord end on the above adapter. Wikipedia has a few different articles

on power outlets.

Those are useful pictures, but in terms of buying from them, they seem

expensive to me. I have a pretty complete set of such adapters; I

can't remember where I bought it or what I paid for it, but it wasn't

very much.



And I see that Amazon.com has an "All-in-One Travel Power Plug Adapter

for US, UK, EU, AU" for $4.83. I think I'll get one of these the next

time I order from Amazon, since it's easier to have one adapter to

travel with, rather than a set of them.

Yes, Ken, I didn't order from them either. Wish I could remember where I

bought my "set" of individual adaptors but I purchased them over 5 years

ago. They were not too expensive then and IIRC paid about $7 for the entire

set.



I have tried the all-in-one power plug adaptor and didn't like it. Bought

one from Radio Shack (yeah, I know but supposedly a good one) and it just

didn't fit correctly and was also the size of all my other adaptors

combined. Another model also just didn't fit my needs. Still have both of

them but leave them home and take my individual adaptors.

BTW there is no such thing as a European wall socket/plug. Every country

has its own. The voltage is always in the 220-240 range, usually 50Hz so any

PSU that accepts this range will do. An American lead and a multi-adapter are

as good as any.



In fact, even the wiring schemes and regulations differ. The cable we use

here is not permitted in France, for example, because they insulate the earth

wire, we do not.



Yet, Brussels recently forced us to start using cable with brown/blue cores

instead of red/black.



Europe=Crazy. But then, bureaucracy and commonsense never did mix.

Yes, have asked Dell Support Representative. They say they "have no this

type of power cord". And they "only have Power Cables for US, Argentina and

Brasil." and recommended use Targus Travel Adapter (which is far more

expensive).
 
If this is what you're looking for, you can get a whole power supply for

less than $20US.
