My wife's computer had a problem and eventually I had to reset it. She has a PC, Windows 10.
Several of the programs disappeared, including MS Office 365. I looked up the appropriate number on the MS Website and called the number. The techie took down the information and key. I think because I am hard of hearing, he took control over the computer (WINDOW KEY -R) and after a while, wrote to say that I had a whole bunch of virus' on the computer - foreign origin and most, if not all, dated 6/16/2016. My call to the number was today, 6/17/2016.
He told me that he would clean it out, quoted a price and transferred it to another techiel I saw the work on the screen progressing and it was about 3 hours before he was finished. The service was called PC Support. They even left a logo with phone numbers (888) together with an invoice.
They did take my credit card information and I gave them a credit card info from a card that was cancelled several months ago and was replaced by a new number. When I called them, they indicated - no worries, as the charge went through. In checking with the bank, nothing showed up and I looked at some other accounts and nothing was amiss.
Question: considering I called a Microsoft number, was a scam or a extra sale pitch. And how does one ask Microsoft what gives? I am afraid that if it were a scam, how does it affect my router and the various other stuff relying on the router/wi-fi which is mostly Apple stuu
