portscans ???

norton av 2007 keeps messaging me about intrusions from 2 IPs...

209.244.0.3, 53 &
209.244.0.4, 53 ...

i have had close to 80 blocks in the past 2 weeks.any ideas on what these are?
and what are portscans actually anyway?

209.244.0.3 is resolver1.level3.net
209.244.0.4 is resolver2.level3.net

Both are DNS servers from Level3
 
stupid question...what is an DNS server and what are the RESOLVERS ?thanks!

A DNS server is a server that translates domain names to IP addresses.
Resolver1 and resolver3 are machine names in this case.
