Phone Link not generating a QR code or PIN.

I have bought a new laptop which came with Windows 11 and I was introduced to Phone Linking, so thought of giving it a try. Logged into the Microsoft account as it asked me and went through the steps, getting stuck at the QR or PIN generation with a message popping up saying "It's not you it's us. We seem to have service problems, please try again" or something like that. I have tried a couple of fixes I've found online but it doesn't seem to change the outcome. Any hints?
