Phone Call stating from Microsoft

I have been called several times from an indian accented person claiming they are from Microsoft regarding my computer and many viruses on it, the call came from Callert ID David Whitehead Phone No. 860-608-6887. I had challenged him asking him if he is in fact a Microsoft employee, which he stated yes, I had told him we have a bad connection and could he give me a phone number to call him back on, He in turn gave me the following number 832-968-6951, when I called that No and blocking my number the automatic greeting asked for my name and then connected me to an indian accented person, I told them wrong no and hung up. Was this in fact a Microsoft Employee and was the call legit? I am currently running Norton 360 and never had a problem, so when they called I was quite skeptical. They were also very persistent and rude.
