Does Microsoft employ technicians to call people claiming that they are receiving warning messages being generated by personal computers that the owner's license(s) has/have expired? On December 31, 2015, I did receive a call from such a person who claimed he worked for Microsoft (he said he was in New York--his number was 212-456-7890) and he said this service was free to seniors. Like a dummy, I let him access my home computer and shortly he said it would cost $268 to renew my licenses. When I said no, he began using profanity, called me an idiot, and said that my computer was going to quit working unless I renewed those licenses. Before I realized it, he began deleting data from my computer and before I could get it shut down he had locked my computer. After I hung up on him, he called five or six times and went into a very vulgar rant each time. I certainly hope this person is not an employee of Microsoft.
I wonder if others have received such calls, which seems to me to be a scam. I cannot imagine Microsoft would want such a person working for them.
