In recent days my PC has start to hang a lot more than before whenever I do something with the files.

You can find my PC specification here.

How did it happened?

One day my PC was hanging super hard and I cannot even use anything. It was basically similar to the 100% disk activity issue where your drive would appear to be busy (seeing hard drive light constantly and 100% disk activity in Task Manager) but upon checking no process is taxing the drive. With such a lag I cannot even turn off my PC so I did the dumb thing and forced shutdown. I also suspected it has to do with my external drive so I unplugged that as well while it’s off. Turning it back on, it became the problem I have till now.

Note that while my PC startup is usually not blazing fast (takes about 10 minutes to fully load everything including after logging in) but it has never hang this hard. I feel like there is something that is making this hang.

What happened now?

1. It takes VERY long to load into the log in screen on start up, honestly not even sure it can even get to the log in screen. When turning on the PC you will see the logo screen and such, and then this screen:

So naturally after this screen, it should’ve load you into the log in screen perhaps after a while, but no what I get is another screen:

If I move my mouse around, it does come up, but other than that I cannot do anything.

This screen remains here for at least 45 minutes last time I left it on for that long. I have never get into the log in screen by normal start up procedure after this problem occurred...

EDIT: It seems like if I left it on for long enough the process would crash. I got this screen after a long while:

Then after a few seconds the PC restart and the cycle continues.

2. Tried some automatic repair and the standard startup repair. No luck.

(While it says D:\ for some reason, I was able to find this file in my C drive and will post it down below.)

Also tried to uninstall the latest quality update (my PC has this issue before with updates) and system restore to before the updates. Both failed.

3. With all that failed, I tried to boot it up in Safe Mode. First Safe Mode only, second time Safe Mode with Networking. Both session takes a while to load in but I was eventually successful and able to log in with my Microsoft account.

First I investigated that startup error file. Since it’s long I will post it in the very end of the post.

I then try to clean up some files. Found out that deleting and moving files are still fine. However, right-clicking files in the C drive (NOT in Desktop which is still fine) caused heavy lag, with similar hanging behaviors (hard disk light constantly on, cannot do any other actions on the PC, etc.).

I left it up for about 15 minutes when Windows Explorer finally restarted by itself so the spinner disappeared along with the window.

4. Tried to open up Windows Security to run some scans. However was greeted with this:

The thing is, I am the only admin user on this PC. No guest account, no shared family account; just me. I am not sure if this perhaps have to do with Safe Mode being limited.

I was able to run Malwarebytes but did not complete the full scan (For personal reasons I have to turn the PC off).

5. With all that done, I tried to do a clean boot following Microsoft help articles. Did that but the normal startup procedure still remains hanging. I guess I can rule out the startup processes being the culprit.

6. I also did an sfc scannow. Tried to use DSIM as instructed to on a Microsoft article but seems like there is a problem on my end, even in Safe Mode with Networking.

(Noted that I have Japanese locale so these \ does not look like normal.)

This DISM log is way too long and contains my username so I won’t be posting it here. I can post segments of it upon request though.

I was still able to do an sfc scan. After running it there are some errors but it did say it fixed some as well.

Once again, pretty long log so I will attach it upon request in the replies.

However, I am still seeing the PC hanging after I restart so I think this option did not solve it for me either.

What can I do now? Please offer me some advices to get my PC back up and running. Thank you for any assistance.
