Password Confusion

Only someone at Microsoft will know the answer to this so please help.L purchased a W11 PC last year and signed in with my email address and password. A month or so passed and Microsoft said I had to change my password, I tried but it wouldn't recognise my old password so I was stuck and couldn't get into my own PC. I eventually was able to do it on my phone via the web rather than on the PC. All was well until another few weeks and I had to change it again, this time I was able to do it on the PC. Another few weeks passed and yet again I had to change it but I found out eventually how to skip
