On a Lenovo T61 running Vista there is a "hidden" 7 GB partition that is for
a recovery operation.

The balance of the Hard Disk is C.

There is no D.

The CD/DVD Reader/Burner is E.

Am I able to use the Vista builtin facilities to shrink C to 20GB, and then
create and format a second partition (D) on the now free/unallocated area?

If so, will this prevent me from doing a recovery as the PC was originally
set up for?

Are there any hidden traps?

Is there a GOOD site/page that describes the operation?

Thanks.

If you moove or alter the location of the boot partition most likely a
recovery will not work. In some models the boot partition is located in a
unallocated portion of the HD an some will think that it is unused but it is
not.

Bad idea...

20 gigs is way to small for your OS

I don't know if my experience helps you, but when I completely wiped (i.e.
hosed) my hard drive and recovered from my HP restore disk, it created the
C and D (recovery) partitions exactly as they were when new.

After that recovery, I shrank my C partition and created a new drive (call
it Z) in the free space, leaving the D partition intact.

In a subsequent recovery from the D drive, it re-imaged the C drive, but
left my "Z" drive intact.

Yes, you can create new partition(D) without any problem using the utility
available in Vista. This won't affect the hidden partition at all and for
