Outlook/Hotmail not showing some emails unless through a search

In the last few months I have been finding that emails are not visible in my inbox unless I search for them specifically.

If someone I know sends me an email, I can't see it in my inbox. When I search for the sender's name, or subject, or keyword, the email is in fact in the inbox. Really frustrating.

This happens on my phone App, in Outlook on my laptop, or in Hotmail on any browser.

I contacted Microsoft support and they offered two links.
Unfortunately, neither was useful to solve the problem.
