OUTLOOK 2010 PST files

I want to store emails in an archive file using rules. The problem is that when the rule runs it reports that the file is not a valid PST file. Having just created the file in outlook 2010 I don't believe it to be a corrupted file. This worked fine using outlook 2003 on network drived but 2010 just won't play the game. Also the auto archive function wont open the PST having just created it. I have tried this using several mail files and its the same problem, create the file and then try to open it "not a PST file"

Any help would be appreciated.
