I just spent far more time than should have been necessary, trying to change the hyperlink assigned to an image in a signature file. Basically a small image with a link to a Facebook page. The link needed modifying so I thought it would be a simple case of Options>Mail>Signatures, select the image and click the hyperlink editor. Tried this numerous times and despite the new link showing correctly in the signature editor, it continued to appear with the old link when opening a new email. I tried deleting and recreating the link and duplicating the signature but all to no avail the old link was effectively permanently attached to the image.
Knowing that the signature editor in Outlook is basically that of MS Word, I copied and pasted the image into Word and tried to remove and change the link their but even in Word the link could not be changed.
At this point I took to the web and found an article from 2012 where a similar problem had been experienced. The solution had been to cut the image from the signature and paste it into an image editor before copying it again. This effectively removed the link from the image and it could be easily pasted back into the signature. Fortunately I had the original image on file so was able to simply delete the linked one and add the new unlinked version. All I had to do then was add the new hyperlink and was very relieved to find that this worked.
So can anyone explain why this occurred and if this is some kind of Outlook/Word bug that has been around since at least 2012.
