Your lazy sledgehammer approach is what most Windows users end up doing, and it often takes less time than a reasoned, patient solution.

I suggest taking a look at this thread first:

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/463065-ordinal-9-can-not-located-2.html

and then this one, which includes a solution from a really patient guy who still used his Osborne(!):

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/574625-iertutil-dll-missing-internet-explorer.html

good luck!

I will not repeat myself again. To resolve the behavior, format & reinstall

Windows.

iertutil.dll ordinals missing AND more IE7

Hello kind people. I am at my wits end with IE7 and Microsoft, so I am

begging for help.

I was forced to delete IE8 Beta and reinstall IE7 to get McAfee Security

Suite working. In the process, I have apparently deleted or damaged the

iertutil.dll as I am getting error messages that the ordinals 58 and 679 are

missing.

Additionally, the desktop icon/utility for Internet Explorer is missing as

are my Internet Options, Temp file, Temporary Internet Files and Cookies

files. I also now cannot find the Windows Firewall to tell it to allow AOL

to connect to the Internet.

I asked Microsoft for help and they sent me here. I thank you all in

advance for your help.

Unfortunately, they only way they got IE working again was by formatting and

reinstalling Windows. Such are the risks when installing any beta software.

No McAfee application has been supported in either of the released IE8 beta

builds. (Actually, the McAfee application itself works fine in IE8 Beta,

it's just that some of the McAfee UI doesn't display correctly.)

The fact that you had a McAfee application installed did NOT cause the

problem, however; The fact that the McAfee application was running in the

background when IE8 Beta was installed and/or uninstalled did.

Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news. Best of luck to you.

messages that say that the iertutil.dll is missing two ordinals, #58 and 679.

I am wondering if I can get a clean copy of the dll and where to drop it in.

McAfee is now up and running again as well. I ended up manually deleting

McAfee, IE7, and AOL then reinstalling them. I am having some problem

getting aol to sign on, but I believe it will work if I get the undamaged

version of the dll.

IE7 isn't working *because* the McAfee suite was running in the background

when you installed & uninstalled IE8 Beta 2. Uninstalling/reinstalling IE7

is not going to help. Uninstalling/reinstalling the McAfee suite and/or the

AOL software isn't going to help either.

Backing up your personal data (e.g., My Documents; IE Favorites; Any emails

downloaded into a Mail Client and no longer residing on the mail server),

formatting & doing a clean install of WinXP will resolve the problem.

PS: After the clean install, you'll have the equivalent of a "new computer"

so take care of *everything* on the following page before otherwise

connecting the machine to the internet (e.g., to browse, check email; chat,

download other stuff, etc.):

The above notwithstanding, free unlimited installation and usage support is

available for Internet Explorer 8 pre-released versions, but only for North

American (i.e., US & CA) English-speaking customers. This support for

Internet Explorer 8 pre-released versions is valid until 31 Dec-08 (i.e., 2

days from now). See

Thank you for your help. Let me clarify my situation just so we are on the

same pager for sure. IE8 is completely gone as are all of its updates. I

now have a working version of IE7. It does not have the blue E on my desktop

(missing application) and the Temporary Internet Files folder is missing,

though when I try to create on the computere says it already exists. When I

move from web page to web page I get an error message telling me that I am

missing Ordinals 58 & 679, but after I click ok, the page loads and behaves

normally. I scanned my computer and found 14 copies of the .dll in question,

but from the size of them, I am guessing they are all the same and missing

the same Ordinals. Is there some way to add these ordinals?

My AOL is now working. My McAfee is now working. So, the IE problem is all

that's left. I am curious that a clean complete copy of IE7 does not seem

to be available out there, which would take care of all the problems.

Microsoft Support keeps trying to sell me technical support time for $515.

Because there is so much on this computer, I am really loathe to do a full

system restore as it took weeks to reinstall everything last time. Perhaps

this is a silly question, but would it help if I deleted IE7 and reinstalled

IE6? If so, do I delete ALL IE files even if not marked IE7 (including the

hidden ones) or just what I can find in the normal view?
